This week, Governor Elect Jay Nixon sent 150 state employees their walking papers. Most of them housed in the Department of Social Services – responsible for programs such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, and the Child Care Subsidy. While this was certainly not an unexpected move, many of these directors and deputies seemed surprised at their dismissal. It is unknown how the transition team made these decisions. Certainly, some of them helped or at least presided over the massive service cuts that were made under the Blunt Administration, but others seem to be at least qualified administrators of the programs.
This massive firing may hint at a massive reorganization of State Government about to be implemented by the new governor.
